Exploiting the social norms within the site of a performance to experiment with multiple levels of audience engagement and participation.

  • juggling roles as writer, director, performer and researcher
  • developing a performance in response to another work
  • including multiple invitations
  • individualizing experiences of the performance
  • exploring the concept of “safe discomfort”

Embracing COVID-19 quarantine by inviting audience-participants to step into role as adventuring artists within their own personal spaces.

Through this project, I grapple with:

  • translating my role as director to asynchronous audience-led experiences
  • the purpose of social media engagement in my PAR work
  • moving my work into an online space
  • usability vs. design aesthetic when selecting a platform
  • consent and its role in audience engagement
  • how to craft “safe discomfort” in an audience-led environment
  • the tension between creating consensual options for participation and the desire to encourage the audience to fully complete the journey
