Illustrate This Story Challenge

Can you illustrate a story in only 3 images?

In this #quarantineart challenge, participants interpret a short 3 sentence story that has been submitted to me. Each day, I will post one of these 3 sentence stories. I challenge YOU out there at home to “illustrate” these stories in 3 images or panels – either through pictures/photographs, gifs, or video.

The whole challenge takes about 5-10 minutes to complete and can be a fun way to kill some time while quarantined at home or a good way to entertain little ones or the whole family!

Sharing your Illustrated Story

It’s easy to share your illustrations on Facebook and Instagram. Either use the Story feature like this example:

OR share as a post with multiple images like so (use the > buttons to scroll through the three panels).

Chased By A Bee story submitted by @marykdoodles and illustrated by @arimesseca on Instagram.

TikTok would be another option for illustrating the story. Participants could use this platform to add music and movement to enhance the story viewing experience.

Once you’ve completed your illustration…

Don’t forget to tag it!!! #illustratethisstory and @kmfriedgen so I can share your interpretations with the original authors!

Thought: Now that I’ve gotten some of these stories, I’m noticing that they are somewhat personal or responding to the current situation.  I’m wondering if I choose one or two for a public challenge, but then submit the others to another contributor to do the challenge.  Sort of a pen-pal storyteller to illustrator.

Twitter Variation: GIF this story

If snark is your preferred type of visual communication, you might enjoy GIF-ing the story rather than illustrating it

Don’t forget to tag it!!! #gifthisstory and #illustratethisstory and @kmfriedgen so I can share your interpretations with the original authors!
